Preparation of cellulose nanocrystals from commercial dissolving pulp using an engineered cellulase system

Abstract There is increasing attention to the production of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) from lignocellulosic biomass by enzymatic hydrolysis with cellulase. In this study, feasibility application a cellulase system engineered strain Penicillium oxalicum cEES in CNCs was assessed. Using commercial eucalyptus dissolving pulp (EDP) as substrate, were successfully obtained cEES, and total yields reached 15.7% through three-step 72 h (24 for each step). The prepared characterized found that their crystallinity thermal stability higher than EDP. later stage hydrolysis, process efficiency preparation greatly decreased because high cellulosic simple homogenization treatment can promote well produce fusiform more uniform size fermentable sugar could be further converted into fuels bulk chemicals fermentation.
